Ayodhya prepares grand Diwali celebration with one lakh oil lamps

Ayodhya is gearing up for an elaborate Diwali celebration that will see the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra complex illuminated by approximately one lakh oil lamps, organizers said on Monday.

To execute the large-scale event, temple authorities have divided the entire complex into five operational zones, with responsibility delegated to approximately 1,000 trained volunteers. The zonal approach is intended to ensure coordinated and efficient lamp placement across the sprawling temple premises.

The festival preparations underscore Ayodhya's significance as a major pilgrimage destination, particularly following the consecration of the new Ram Mandir in January 2024. Diwali, the festival of lights celebrated across India, holds special cultural resonance in the temple city.

The oil lamps are expected to create a visually striking display, transforming the temple complex into a radiant spectacle during the five-day festival period. Organizers have emphasized the symbolic importance of the traditional diyas, or oil lamps, in Hindu religious observance and the festival's broader spiritual significance.
