India's food regulator has conferred its highest food safety honour on Ayodhya's Ram Janmbhoomi temple complex, recognising the shrine's commitment to maintaining stringent hygiene standards in food preparation and serving. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued the 'Eat Right Place of Worship' certificate during a formal ceremony on Saturday, with FSSAI CEO Rajit Punhani presenting the credentials to the temple management.
The certification, valid for two years from October 11, 2026 to October 10, 2028, acknowledges the temple's compliance with national food safety guidelines and best practices in handling provisions intended for devotees and visitors.
The 'Eat Right Places of Worship' initiative represents a broader effort by India's food regulator to elevate hygiene standards across religious institutions that serve large congregations. The scheme encourages temples, mosques, gurudwaras and churches to adopt systematic food safety protocols while positioning these centres of faith as platforms for disseminating food safety awareness among their communities.
Through this certification programme, the FSSAI aims to foster a culture of responsibility among worshippers regarding food safety practices, leveraging the trust and influence that places of worship command within Indian society.
