A member of NITI Aayog, India's premier policy think tank, has highlighted the transformative potential of data generated through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission in reshaping healthcare systems across India and the Global South. Dr M Srinivas underscored how the vast repositories of health information being compiled through the flagship scheme could be leveraged through artificial intelligence applications to drive clinical and operational improvements. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, launched in 2021, aims to create a unified digital health ecosystem by linking patients, providers, and payers through standardised, interoperable health records. According to Dr Srinivas, the aggregation of this data, combined with advanced analytics, presents an unprecedented opportunity to address healthcare challenges that developing nations face, including resource constraints and limited access to specialist expertise. The NITI Aayog official suggested that insights drawn from India's experience could provide a replicable model for other countries in the Global South seeking to strengthen their healthcare infrastructure through digital means.
