Azalina urges Hadi to moderate criticism of CSA bill

KUALA LUMPUR — Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has urged PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to adopt a less confrontational approach in his criticism of the Constitutional Shariah Amendment (CSA) Bill.

Azalina, speaking to reporters, indicated that while Hadi is entitled to voice his opposition to the legislation, the use of extreme or inflammatory language is unwarranted. She suggested that substantive debate on the bill's merits could proceed without resorting to such rhetoric.

The CSA Bill, which has been a subject of considerable discussion among lawmakers and religious leaders, seeks to amend the Federal Constitution regarding Shariah law provisions. The proposal has generated debate within Malaysia's political and religious communities, with various parties presenting differing perspectives on its implications.

Hadi, leading one of Malaysia's largest Islamist parties, has been vocal in his stance on the matter. Azalina's comments appear aimed at encouraging a more measured discussion among political leaders on the contentious constitutional amendment.

The Speaker's remarks underscore ongoing tensions within Malaysia's political landscape as lawmakers prepare to address the legislative proposal.
