B40 and M40 households reaping greater BUDI95 fuel subsidy benefits

Data analysing fuel consumption patterns under Malaysia's BUDI95 petrol subsidy programme indicates that the B40 and M40 income groups are receiving proportionally larger benefits than commonly assumed, a government minister said Tuesday.

Amir Hamzah Azizan noted that actual purchase records paint a markedly different picture from public perception regarding subsidy distribution across income levels. The minister highlighted that petrol transaction data demonstrates stronger uptake of the targeted fuel scheme among lower and middle-income households than previously believed.

The BUDI95 programme, which provides subsidised fuel to eligible Malaysian citizens, has been a focal point of government assistance initiatives aimed at easing the cost of living burden. The minister's comments suggest the scheme is effectively reaching its intended beneficiaries, with lower-income groups capturing a significant share of the subsidy advantages.

The government has continued to emphasise its commitment to ensuring targeted subsidies reach those most in need of financial relief. The data-driven analysis underscores efforts to measure and optimise the distribution of fuel assistance across different income demographics in Malaysia.
