BAGUIO CITY — Local authorities have moved to tighten oversight of imported farm commodities circulating in the highland city through the establishment of a new monitoring task force. Mayor Magalong issued Executive Order No. 177, series of 2026, on Wednesday to formalize the initiative, according to the Baguio Public Information Office.
The task force will focus on ensuring that all imported agricultural crops meet national importation requirements as well as sanitary and phytosanitary regulations. The measure represents an effort to maintain product quality standards while protecting local consumers and domestic agricultural interests.
The timing of the order reflects ongoing concerns across Philippine agricultural regions regarding product safety and fair trade practices. Baguio City, a major agricultural hub in northern Luzon, has long grappled with balancing the availability of diverse produce with protection of local farmers and consumer health standards.
