Baguio residents upbeat on economy, education despite housing woes

BAGUIO CITY — Residents of the Philippines' Summer Capital expressed broad satisfaction with key aspects of city life, according to findings from a comprehensive quality of life survey presented to the Baguio City Council this week.

The survey indicates that residents hold positive views of the local economy, the quality of the education system and overall safety conditions in the city. These areas of contentment suggest that municipal authorities have made headway in maintaining the city's competitive advantages in employment opportunities and academic institutions.

However, the survey also identified significant areas of concern requiring immediate attention. Housing affordability emerged as a pressing issue among residents, with many struggling to secure adequate and reasonably priced accommodation in the city. Environmental degradation and limited public awareness about climate change also ranked prominently among resident grievances.

Donna Tabangin, the city's planning, development and sustainability officer, presented the survey results and indicated that the findings would inform future policy and development initiatives. The data provides municipal planners with concrete feedback on citizen priorities as they work to address the city's most urgent challenges while building on existing strengths.
