Bajaj's electric Chetek scooter has recorded a remarkable 307% surge in sales during July compared to the same month last year, reflecting growing consumer interest in affordable electric two-wheelers. The July performance also marked a substantial month-on-month improvement over June sales figures.
The electric Chetek has positioned itself as an economical option for daily commuters, with the scooter capable of covering 153 kilometres on a charge at an operating cost of approximately 35 rupees. This combination of extended range and low fuel costs has resonated strongly with Indian consumers increasingly looking at electric alternatives to conventional petrol-powered scooters.
Since transitioning to an electric powertrain, the Chetek has established itself as a key growth driver for Bajaj Auto in the electric two-wheeler segment. The consistent month-over-month improvements in sales suggest sustained market demand and growing acceptance of electric scooters among Indian consumers, particularly in the mass-market segment.
The strong performance underscores the viability of competitively-priced electric two-wheelers in India's transportation ecosystem, where fuel efficiency and affordability remain primary purchasing considerations. As domestic electric vehicle adoption accelerates, the Chetek's trajectory indicates that manufacturers offering practical, cost-effective solutions are well-positioned to capture significant market share in the rapidly evolving sector.
