Bakun suspends classes as heavy rains lash Benguet municipality

BAGUIO CITY — Bakun Mayor Fausto T. Labinio announced the suspension of in-person classes Thursday afternoon, citing intensifying rainfall and student safety concerns. The order affects all public and private elementary and secondary schools in the municipality through the end of the week.

The decision comes as the Benguet municipality experienced heavy precipitation, with weather forecasters predicting continued wet conditions across northern Luzon. The suspension allows authorities to monitor weather patterns and assess road and infrastructure conditions before resuming normal classroom operations.

Localofficials urged residents in Bakun and surrounding areas to exercise caution during the wet weather period, as mountain communities remain vulnerable to flooding and landslides during heavy rainfall. The municipality said it would provide updates on the resumption of classes early next week pending improved weather conditions.
