Balapur Ganesh's famed laddu fetches record ₹39 lakh at auction

The legendary laddu from Balapur's presiding Ganesh idol has set a new auction record, commanding ₹39 lakh at this year's sale. The sweet, traditionally prepared and offered to the deity, is among the most sought-after items during Hyderabad's Ganesh immersion season, with wealthy devotees and philanthropists competing annually for the opportunity to purchase and distribute the blessed offering.

The Balapur Ganesh celebration stands as one of South India's most significant religious observances, attracting thousands of devotees throughout the festival season. The auction of the deity's iconic laddu has become a prominent feature of the festivities, with proceeds typically directed toward charitable causes and temple maintenance.

Civic authorities in Hyderabad have announced comprehensive traffic restrictions to facilitate the immersion processions and associated celebrations. From 6 a.m. on September 25 until 10 a.m. on September 26, traffic along the main procession route will be restricted exclusively to vehicles carrying Ganesh idols. Residents and commuters have been advised to plan alternate routes during this period, with authorities deploying additional personnel to manage congestion in central Hyderabad.

The immersion procession represents the culmination of the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, during which devotees welcome the deity into their homes and communities. The large-scale public celebrations underscore the cultural and religious significance of the festival across the region.
