Ballistics link Albay broadcaster's death to prior shooting

LEGAZPI CITY — Ballistics testing has established a connection between the killing of broadcaster Adrian Loterte in Daraga, Albay, and a prior shooting incident involving a .45-caliber handgun, according to the Bicol police on Wednesday.

The PNP Forensic Group's Firearms Identification Section made the determination after analyzing bullet slugs and cartridge cases recovered from the scene of Loterte's death. The matched evidence points to the same weapon used in an earlier shooting investigation, investigators said.

The development marks a significant lead in the case of Loterte's slaying. Police have not yet announced arrests or identified suspects in connection with either incident.

The connection between the two shootings is expected to guide the direction of the ongoing investigation as authorities work to determine the motive and individuals responsible for the broadcaster's death.
