A prominent pensioners' organization based in Bangalore has made significant demands to the eighth pay commission, seeking substantial improvements in both active employee compensation and pensioner benefits. The group has called for salary increases exceeding 200 percent for government employees, citing rising living costs and inflation pressures across the region.
According to the submission, current salary levels at ₹69,000 and pension payments at ₹34,000 require substantial revision to maintain adequate standards of living. The pensioners' body has emphasized that the gap between employee salaries and pension amounts needs to be narrowed to ensure equitable treatment of retired workers.
Beyond compensation figures, the organization has also advocated for structural reforms to the family pension unit system. The proposed changes aim to address gaps in the current framework and provide better security for dependents of deceased pensioners.
The eighth pay commission, which reviews salary structures and pension schemes for government employees in India, typically takes into account inflation, cost of living indices, and comparative studies of compensation levels across different sectors. Such demands from pensioner groups are routinely submitted during the consultation period for pay commission deliberations.
