Bangalore transport authority cracks down on illegal bus stops at flyover

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has initiated a crackdown on its buses that have been making unofficial stops along the Nagawara flyover, following multiple complaints from commuters and traffic authorities. The unauthorised halts have been concentrated on the steep ramps of the flyover, where drivers were stopping to pick up and drop off technology professionals commuting to and from the Manyata Tech Park in the city's north.

The practice had become routine over several months, creating safety hazards and traffic congestion on one of Bangalore's critical transport corridors. By stopping on steep gradient sections of the elevated roadway, buses were obstructing traffic flow and potentially endangering both passengers and other motorists using the busy flyover.

The BMTC's enforcement campaign represents an effort to restore compliance with designated bus routes and authorised stopping points. Officials have indicated that the action aims to eliminate the informal stopping patterns that had developed as drivers sought to serve commuters heading to the tech park, one of the city's major employment hubs.

The crackdown underscores ongoing challenges in managing last-mile connectivity for Bangalore's large working population while maintaining traffic safety and flow on critical infrastructure. Commuters and transport operators have long sought solutions to bridge gaps between formal bus routes and final destinations in areas like tech parks.
