Bangi MP urges allocation of parliamentary funds based on constituency needs
Democratic Action Party legislator Syahredzan Johan has called for a more equitable distribution of parliamentary funding, arguing that allocation should reflect the size and requirements of individual constituencies.

Syahredzan Johan, who represents Bangi—Malaysia's most densely populated parliamentary constituency—said the current funding mechanism fails to account for the vastly different needs across the country's 222 federal constituencies.
The DAP politician contended that a one-size-fits-all approach to parliamentary allocations does not serve constituents effectively, particularly in high-density urban areas where demand for services and infrastructure is substantially greater.
"Constituencies with larger populations and greater developmental challenges require proportionately higher resources to adequately serve their constituents," Syahredzan noted. Bangi, which encompasses areas in Selangor, has consistently ranked among the nation's most populous electoral divisions.
His intervention adds to ongoing discussions about parliamentary resource allocation and the adequacy of funding mechanisms for lawmakers to discharge their representative duties across constituencies with markedly different demographic and geographical profiles.
The call reflects broader concerns among legislators about whether current budget allocations enable effective constituency work and constituent services, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas facing infrastructure strain and growing population pressures.
