Bangkok officials probe massive household registration of foreign children
Thai authorities in Din Daeng district have begun investigating an unusual household registration listing dozens of Myanmar children at a single residential address. The discovery has raised questions about how the registration system is being used.

Officials at the Din Daeng district office in Bangkok became suspicious when processing a household registration that listed a unusually large number of Myanmar children. During routine inquiries in June, a registration officer questioned the applicant, identified as Aor, about the legitimacy of having so many foreign minors listed as residents of what appears to be a modest residential unit.
The case highlights potential vulnerabilities in Thailand's household registration system, which serves as a critical document for accessing education, healthcare, and other social services. The registration of numerous individuals at a single address, particularly children from neighboring countries, has prompted district officials to conduct further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the listing.
Din Daeng district authorities have not yet disclosed the full details of their findings or indicated what actions may be taken. The investigation comes as Thailand continues to grapple with managing its large migrant population, particularly from Myanmar, while ensuring that social services and administrative systems function properly and are not subject to abuse.
