Bangladesh and China advance defence ties, finalise Teesta water-sharing accord

Bangladesh and China have finalised plans on the Teesta River water-sharing arrangement, clearing a significant diplomatic hurdle between the two neighbours. The agreement, which has been the subject of protracted negotiations, addresses longstanding concerns over equitable distribution of the transboundary river's waters during different seasons.

Simultaneously, the two countries have advanced discussions on Bangladesh's potential acquisition of Chinese military hardware. These preliminary talks have now progressed to the threshold of formal negotiations regarding the purchase of J-10CE fighter jets and attack helicopters, marking a substantial expansion of Bangladesh's defence cooperation with China.

The dual breakthrough reflects deepening ties between Dhaka and Beijing across diplomatic and strategic domains.
