Bangladesh has emphasized the critical role of mutual trust and sustained bilateral dialogue in shaping future relations with India, according to State Minister Humaiun Kobir. Speaking on the matter of strengthening South Asian ties, Kobir underscored that direct engagement between the two nations' leadership would be beneficial for addressing shared concerns.
The Bangladesh government has also called for coordinated efforts to prevent extremist elements from either country from making inflammatory statements that could destabilize the region. Kobir stressed that such responsible conduct is essential for maintaining constructive relations between the neighboring states.
A potential visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India is currently being explored, officials said, with both capitals recognizing the value of high-level dialogue. The proposed engagement reflects Dhaka's commitment to fostering cooperation on bilateral and regional matters, contingent on principles of mutual respect and reciprocal understanding.
The remarks come as Bangladesh and India continue to navigate their complex relationship, which encompasses trade, security, and regional stability concerns. Officials from both nations have previously indicated their desire to strengthen institutional channels of communication to address outstanding issues and explore avenues for deeper cooperation.
