Bangladesh launches three-month dengue prevention drive nationwide

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has rolled out a three-month nationwide dengue prevention campaign, signalling heightened government attention to the recurring public health challenge facing Bangladesh. The initiative encompasses multiple government agencies and local administration to implement coordinated prevention strategies across urban and rural areas.

The campaign focuses on reducing mosquito breeding sites, public education on dengue symptoms and prevention methods, and strengthening surveillance mechanisms to detect cases early. Health officials have been directed to intensify community outreach programs and ensure adequate supply of insecticides and protective equipment to healthcare facilities.

Dengue has emerged as a significant public health concern in Bangladesh, with seasonal spikes typically occurring during monsoon months. The disease, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, has previously caused substantial hospitalizations and fatalities across the nation. Previous campaigns have targeted vector control through community mobilization and environmental sanitation.

The government has instructed health authorities to maintain heightened surveillance and reporting systems during the campaign period. Citizens have been advised to eliminate standing water around homes, use mosquito nets, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as high fever, joint pain, and rash appear. Healthcare providers are being mobilized to ensure rapid diagnosis and treatment availability.
