Bangladesh PM outlines five-point strategy to resolve Rohingya crisis

The Prime Minister's plan addresses multiple dimensions of the Rohingya crisis, which has seen nearly one million stateless individuals seek refuge in Bangladesh since 2017. The strategy encompasses approaches to humanitarian assistance, shelter management, and long-term solutions for the displaced population currently housed in sprawling camps across Cox's Bazar.

The five-point framework is intended to coordinate efforts among government agencies, international organizations, and humanitarian partners operating in the region. Officials indicated the plan prioritizes both immediate relief measures and sustainable approaches to prevent further displacement while exploring pathways toward eventual resolution of the broader crisis.

Bangladesh has borne substantial economic and social costs from hosting the world's largest refugee camp population. The government's initiative reflects ongoing pressure to develop comprehensive solutions while managing the strain on local infrastructure, resources, and communities adjacent to the camps.

International partners, including the United Nations and bilateral aid organizations, are expected to support implementation of the strategy. Bangladesh has consistently called for greater international engagement in facilitating the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Rohingya to Myanmar, where most originated before fleeing persecution.
