Bangladesh Pushes India for Faster Business Visas, Balanced Trade Ties

Bangladesh has appealed to India to accelerate the issuance of business visas for its nationals and reduce barriers to bilateral trade as both countries work towards a more balanced economic relationship. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stressed that speedier visa processing would enable Bangladeshi businesspeople to travel to India more frequently and strengthen commercial ties between the private sectors of the two nations.

Addressing a reception in Dhaka, Islam outlined several impediments affecting trade flows and said Bangladesh wanted to see "more vibrant trade, investment and communication" with India. She identified non-tariff barriers, standards and testing-related difficulties, procedural delays, and infrastructure constraints as key obstacles that need resolution to facilitate smoother movement of goods and services across the border.

The remarks underscore Dhaka's push for greater predictability and ease of doing business with its largest trading partner. Bangladesh has emphasized that enhanced commercial engagement should benefit both countries equally, signalling a desire to move beyond traditional trade dynamics and foster deeper private sector cooperation between the two South Asian neighbours.
