Bangladesh restricts battery-powered rickshaws from major road networks
Authorities have implemented a ban on battery-operated rickshaws from highways, expressways and elevated expressway corridors across Bangladesh. The restriction aims to regulate traffic flow on major arterial routes.

Bangladesh has moved to restrict the movement of battery-powered rickshaws on the country's primary road networks, including highways, expressways and elevated expressway systems. The prohibition takes effect immediately and applies to all designated high-speed corridors.
The restriction represents an effort by transport authorities to manage congestion and safety concerns on major traffic arteries. Battery-operated rickshaws, which have become increasingly prevalent in urban and semi-urban areas, will continue to operate on secondary roads and local streets within permitted zones.
The measure is expected to streamline traffic movement on expressway systems while channelling battery-rickshaw services to routes appropriate for their operational capacity. Operators of battery-powered three-wheelers are advised to familiarize themselves with the new corridor restrictions to avoid penalties.
The decision reflects ongoing efforts by the government to modernize transportation infrastructure and establish clearer regulations governing different vehicle categories across Bangladesh's expanding road network.
