Bangsamoro group calls for Marcos-MILF leader meeting before parliament opens
A civic organization in the Bangsamoro region has urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to meet with Moro Islamic Liberation Front chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim before the Bangsamoro Parliament convenes on October 30. MANILA — The Bangsamoro autonomous region's civic group AMANA BARMM has called on President Marcos to hold discussions with MILF leadership before the regional parliament officially opens later this month, citing the potential to reinvigorate stalled peace negotiations.
In a statement released Monday, AMANA BARMM emphasized that a high-level meeting between the president and MILF chair Murad Ebrahim could provide momentum to advance the peace process that has stretched across decades. The timing of such talks before the October 30 parliamentary session would signal renewed commitment to resolving conflicts in the Bangsamoro region.
The advocacy group's appeal reflects ongoing efforts to maintain dialogue channels between Manila and the MILF, a principal party to the 2014 Bangsamoro Framework Agreement. Officials and civil society organizations have consistently underscored the importance of sustained engagement to consolidate gains made in previous peace negotiations and address remaining issues.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has served as the primary mechanism for implementing the peace agreement and advancing self-governance in the region. Continued dialogue between national leadership and MILF representatives remains central to the framework's successful execution and the broader stability of Mindanao.
