COTABATO CITY — Elected members of the Bangsamoro Parliament began converging at the Bangsamoro Government Center (BGC) Friday morning ahead of the afternoon's inaugural session. Starting around 10 a.m., motorcades of vehicles arrived at the facility's main gate as light rain blanketed the area.
The gathering marked a significant milestone for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), establishing the first autonomous parliament for the region's Muslim population. Among the early arrivals were representatives affiliated with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a major stakeholder in the Bangsamoro governance framework.
Security personnel implemented stringent protocols throughout the BGC to ensure the safe conduct of the historic session. The heightened measures reflected the political significance of the event and ongoing security considerations in the Mindanao region.
The inaugural session represented the culmination of the peace agreement framework that established the Bangsamoro autonomous region. Lawmakers were expected to undertake organizational procedures and begin the legislative agenda for the newly autonomous government.
