Bank records 'difficult to dispute' in Duterte impeachment case
Palace officials say financial documents presented as evidence in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial carry significant evidentiary weight. Unless there is proof of tampering, the bank records are unlikely to be successfully challenged, according to a Palace legal representative.

MANILA — Financial documents submitted in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment proceedings would be challenging to contest absent evidence of tampering, according to Claire Castro, press officer of the Palace.
Castro, who holds a law degree, addressed questions regarding the evidentiary value of bank records after financial documents linked to Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, were entered into the trial proceedings.
"Bank records do not lie," Castro stated, emphasizing the difficulty in disputing such documentary evidence without concrete proof of alterations or fraud.
The presentation of the financial documents represents a significant development in the ongoing impeachment trial, which has drawn considerable public attention in the Philippines. The submission of banking materials is typically considered substantial evidence in legal proceedings, particularly when the documents originate from recognized financial institutions.
