Bank Services Set for Disruption as Unions Call Three-Day Strike
Indian banks face operational challenges from September 28-30 as unions stage a nationwide strike. While digital services remain unaffected, customers relying on physical branch transactions are likely to encounter significant delays.

Banks across India are bracing for widespread disruptions next week as labor unions initiate a three-day strike from September 28-30. The industrial action is expected to impact routine banking operations, particularly services dependent on manual processing and branch-level interventions.
Transactions requiring physical presence at bank branches—including cash withdrawals, deposits, account opening, and document verification—are anticipated to face substantial delays or suspension during the strike period. Customers seeking immediate banking services may find branches closed or operating with minimal staff. However, digital banking channels remain largely insulated from the stoppage, allowing account holders to continue online transfers, bill payments, and balance inquiries through internet banking and mobile applications.
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are expected to function normally during the strike, provided existing cash reserves are adequate. Pre-arranged services such as standing instructions and recurring deposits already in the system should continue processing without interruption. The strike, though disruptive, primarily targets counter services and administrative functions at branch level.
Customers are advised to plan their banking requirements accordingly and utilize digital platforms where possible. Those with urgent branch-dependent transactions should complete them before the strike commences or postpone until normal operations resume on October 1. Bank officials recommend customers check with their respective institutions for branch-specific guidelines and contingency arrangements.
