Branch operations at public sector banks came to a standstill across several states on Wednesday, affecting routine customer transactions including cash withdrawals and cheque clearances. The strike impacted counter services and other in-branch functions, forcing many customers to defer their banking needs.
Despite the disruptions at physical branches, digital banking infrastructure continued to function normally throughout the period. Customers retained access to online banking platforms, mobile applications, and Automated Teller Machines, allowing them to conduct electronic transactions and account inquiries without interruption.
The strike highlighted the distinction between traditional branch-based services and modern digital banking channels. While walk-in customers faced difficulties completing transactions that required in-person processing, those reliant on digital platforms experienced minimal disruption to their banking activities.
Public sector banks issued advisories urging customers to utilize digital banking options during the disruption period. Officials indicated that branch services would be restored to normal operations once the strike concluded, with a focus on clearing the backlog of pending cheques and other pending transactions.
