Bank strike postponed; branches to operate normally through September

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has postponed its scheduled strike after holding talks with the Indian Banks' Association (IBA), clearing the way for uninterrupted banking services over the coming days. Bank customers and businesses can proceed with their transactions as normal during the period that was originally earmarked for industrial action.

The union deferred its strike action following negotiations that addressed several contentious issues affecting the banking sector. Key topics under discussion included the implementation of a five-day banking week, concerns related to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and various other pending matters affecting bank employees across the country.

Both parties have indicated their commitment to continuing dialogue on the outstanding issues. The UFBU represents multiple unions across India's banking sector and has previously leveraged strike action to press for workplace demands and policy changes.

The decision to defer the strike provides a reprieve for the banking system, which handles substantial volumes of transactions daily. Customers are advised that branches will operate on their regular schedules, and all banking services including deposits, withdrawals, and other financial operations will proceed normally.
