Indian banks are preparing for possible service disruptions as unions gear up for strike action between September 11-14, 2026. The State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) has issued an advisory warning of widespread impacts on routine banking operations if the strike materialises as planned.
If the action proceeds, customers will face disruptions across essential banking services. Branch-based transactions including cheque deposits, cash withdrawals through tellers, and processing of major loan categories—including home, automobile and gold loans—will be unavailable. The advisory specifically highlights Friday, September 11, as a critical day when such services are likely to remain inaccessible.
In response, the SLBC is advising customers to utilise digital banking channels and plan their financial transactions ahead of the strike period. Online banking platforms, mobile applications, and ATM services are expected to remain operational, offering alternative avenues for routine transactions during the disruption.
Banking sector unions periodically resort to strike action to press wage demands and other employment-related grievances. Customers are urged to complete time-sensitive transactions, including loan applications and cheque deposits, before the strike period commences.
