Barcelona's Camp Nou to host 2029 Champions League final

Barcelona's Camp Nou has been selected to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, the European football body announced on Tuesday, beating rival bids from Wembley Stadium in London. The 115,000-capacity venue, currently undergoing a major renovation project, will stage football's premier club competition final for the first time since 1999, when Manchester United's dramatic stoppage-time goals denied Bayern Munich in one of the competition's most memorable matches.

The selection provides Barcelona with a prestigious fixture one year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco. The 2030 World Cup final itself will be contested between Real Madrid's renovated Santiago Bernabeu stadium and a new 115,000-seat facility being constructed in Casablanca, Morocco.

In a separate decision, UEFA's executive committee confirmed that Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena will host the 2028 Champions League final, just three years after staging the 2025 edition. Bayern Munich was the sole bidder for the 2028 hosting rights.

Camp Nou's reconstruction remains ongoing, with the stadium's upper tier and roof still under construction. Wembley Stadium, which has hosted the Champions League final eight times in total since the competition's inception 71 years ago, has staged the showpiece match three times in the past 13 years—in 2011, 2013, and most recently in 2024.
