Barisan Nasional fields 21 candidates for Melaka state election

MELAKA — Barisan Nasional confirmed it will contest 21 of 28 seats in the forthcoming Melaka state assembly election, maintaining a measured approach to candidate selection ahead of the polls.

The coalition retained prominent figures including Ab Rauf Mohamed and Akmal Saleh among its slate, signalling continuity in key positions while introducing fresh candidates to strengthen its electoral prospects. The decision reflects BN's strategy to balance experience with new political talent across the state's constituencies.

The announcement comes as political parties in Malaysia prepare for the state-level contest, with BN positioning itself competitively in the southern state. By contesting fewer than the total available seats, the coalition has opted not to field candidates in seven constituencies, a move that may reflect strategic calculations regarding electoral viability or coalition agreements with other parties.

Party officials indicated the selected candidates represent a cross-section of community representatives and seasoned politicians, aimed at addressing voter concerns across Melaka's diverse constituencies. The finalised lineup is expected to set the stage for campaigning activities in the lead-up to voting day.
