PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman has moved to clarify the situation in the province, refuting claims circulating on social media and mainstream outlets that authorities had imposed a total lockdown following two recent ambush incidents targeting Army soldiers.
The governor emphasized that daily life across Basilan remains unchanged, with residents and travelers able to move freely throughout the province. He attributed the widespread reports to misinformation originating from media sources, stressing the need for accurate reporting during sensitive security situations.
The clarification comes after the two separate ambush attacks on military personnel in recent days, which had prompted speculation about possible security lockdowns in the region. Hataman's statement aims to reassure residents and the business community that operations continue normally despite the security incidents.
The provincial government has maintained that appropriate security measures are in place to address threats while ensuring that essential services and civilian movement are not disrupted. Officials have called for responsible reporting to prevent public alarm and economic disruption in the province.
