The Commission on Higher Education formally conferred university status on Basilan State College during ceremonies held at the institution's gymnasium in Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City, on Friday. CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis presided over the announcement, celebrating the milestone as a testament to the institution's institutional development and academic progress.
The upgrade elevates Basilan State College from its previous status and reflects improvements in academic quality, research capacity, and institutional governance that met CHED's stringent requirements for university recognition. The transition positions the institution to expand its academic offerings and enhance its role in regional higher education.
The newly designated Basilan State University (BasSU) is expected to strengthen educational opportunities in the province and support the region's socioeconomic development through enhanced research and professional training programs. University status typically allows institutions greater autonomy in program development and resource allocation.
