Environmental groups in Bataan gathered Sunday evening in Limay town to hold a candle vigil mourning trees that have been cut down along Roman Highway and other provincial locations. Young Bataeños for Environmental Advocacy Network (YoungBean) and Nuclear-Free Bataan Movement (NFBM) organized the solemn gathering to draw attention to the loss of vegetation in the area. According to Eric Beren, secretary general of YoungBean, the candlelit vigil represents part of the organizations' broader advocacy efforts to protect Bataan's natural environment. The groups have expressed concern over the extent of tree felling activities affecting the province's landscape and ecosystem. Environmental advocates in the region have increasingly called for stricter oversight of deforestation practices and stronger protections for remaining vegetation along public thoroughfares and residential areas.
