Battery storage contracts awarded for Vidullanka solar expansion project

Winning bidders have been announced for battery energy storage system (BESS) procurement as part of the Vidullanka project, which aims to expand the country's solar power generation capacity. The selected firms will supply a combined 93 megawatt-hours of battery storage to support solar plants under the scheme.
The battery storage systems are designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of solar energy generation by storing excess power during peak production hours and discharging it when demand increases or solar output declines. This capability is critical for integrating larger volumes of renewable energy into Sri Lanka's national grid.
The Vidullanka project represents a significant component of the government's renewable energy expansion strategy, which targets increased solar deployment across the island.
