The Bundesliga side faced an unexpected struggle against their lower-division opponent, finding themselves in real danger of premature elimination from the competition. However, Baumgartner's decisive intervention in the second half transformed the match, striking twice within five minutes to turn the tide decisively in Leipzig's favour.
Baumgartner's clinical finishing proved the difference between progression and embarrassment for the Leipzig outfit, who were left to rue their earlier profligacy in front of goal. The Austrian international's quick-fire double secured the narrow margin of victory that proved sufficient to advance the club through to the next stage.
The narrow escape underscores the often unpredictable nature of cup competitions, where established sides frequently face stiff resistance from determined challengers. Leipzig's late-match resilience and Baumgartner's composure in both finishing opportunities ultimately ensured they avoided a potential upset that would have dominated post-match analysis.
