Bay of Bengal depression shifts course toward Myanmar, Northeast India

A well-marked depression over the Bay of Bengal has changed direction and is now advancing toward the northwest, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday. The system, which initially threatened coastal regions, is expected to gradually lose intensity as it progresses inland.
Despite forecasts of weakening, meteorological officials cautioned that the depression could continue to influence weather patterns across a broad swathe of the region. Myanmar and Bangladesh are likely to experience significant rainfall and wind activity as the system moves across their territories, while northeastern India may also face spillover effects.
The IMD has advised residents and authorities in affected areas to remain alert for potential flooding and landslides given the system's moisture-laden character. Maritime activity along the Bay of Bengal coast is expected to remain disrupted in the short term, with authorities recommending caution for fishing vessels and coastal communities.
