BBA student arrested on terror links, weapons trafficking charges in Karnataka

Vishal Kumar Metre, a Bachelor of Business Administration student, was taken into custody in Bidar district following an investigation that uncovered alleged connections to proscribed groups operating from Pakistan, according to law enforcement officials.

Authorities said a preliminary examination of the suspect's mobile phone revealed communications with individuals based in Pakistan as well as activity on WhatsApp channels believed to be linked to the banned organizations and weapons trafficking operations. The nature and extent of these communications remain under investigation.

The Bidar police have registered a case against Metre under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, India's recently enacted criminal code. Officers are conducting further inquiries to determine the scope of the alleged network and any potential involvement of additional individuals.

The arrest reflects ongoing security concerns in southern India regarding cross-border connections to banned militant organizations. Investigators are examining whether the suspect had any operational role or was merely in possession of information related to prohibited groups.
