The BCCI has extended the deadline for Indian Premier League franchises to submit their player retention and release lists for the 2027 season, moving it from November 15 to November 17. The two-day extension provides teams with extra time to make final decisions on squad composition before the mini auction process begins.
The decision to defer the deadline comes amid scheduling pressures created by the India-New Zealand one-day international series, which coincides with the original submission date. The extension ensures that franchise management and coaching staff have adequate time to prepare their retention strategies without being constrained by concurrent international cricket commitments.
Teams will now have until November 17 to formally communicate which players they intend to retain and which ones will be released back into the auction pool. The mini auction, which allows franchises to acquire additional players to strengthen their squads, is scheduled to take place after the retention window closes.
This marks the second successive IPL cycle following the revamped mega auction format introduced in recent years. The 2027 edition will continue with enhanced player retention rules designed to maintain competitive balance across all ten franchises while allowing teams to build continuity within their core squads.
The modified deadline reflects the BCCI's ongoing efforts to coordinate the IPL calendar with India's international cricket fixtures, ensuring minimal conflict between domestic league operations and national team commitments.
