BCCI Selection Panel Quizzed on Rohit, Vaibhav, Gill in New Selector Hunt

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has completed interviews for a fifth selector to join its national selection committee, following Ajit Agarkar's departure. The interview process focused on key strategic matters currently facing Indian cricket, with candidates presented with scenario-based questions regarding high-profile players and team management.

Among the topics examined was Rohit Sharma's potential involvement in the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, a one-day format tournament scheduled for the latter part of the decade. Candidates were also questioned about the limited opportunities afforded to young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the T20 International playing eleven, requiring them to articulate their views on youth development and squad rotation policies.

The selection committee also sought the candidates' perspectives on contingency arrangements for the captain's role. Specifically, they were asked to address succession planning should current captain Shubman Gill become unavailable due to injury. This line of questioning underscores the committee's focus on ensuring robust backup plans for critical leadership positions within the Indian cricket setup.

The new selector will join a committee responsible for picking squads across India's international teams spanning Test, One-Day International, and Twenty20 formats. The appointment comes as Indian cricket navigates multiple bilateral series and tournament preparations across the calendar year.
