Police in Mongolia reported that a bear breached a traditional nomadic dwelling, known as a ger, in an area adjacent to Ulaanbaatar, the nation's capital. The animal attacked residents inside the structure, resulting in the death of one man and severe injuries to a woman.
The circumstances surrounding how the bear accessed the dwelling remain under investigation by local authorities. Such incidents are uncommon in residential areas near the capital, prompting police to examine whether the animal had been provoked or if the intrusion was accidental.
The injured woman was taken for emergency medical treatment. Wildlife officials have not yet disclosed details regarding the bear's species, size, or subsequent whereabouts following the attack.
Mongolia is home to several bear species, including brown bears and black bears, which typically inhabit forested and mountainous regions away from human settlement. Attacks on residents in or near populated areas remain rare events in the country.
