Beloved cartoon characters, military hardware shine at Malaysia's 69th National Day

PUTRAJAYA — Malaysia marked its 69th National Day with a colourful parade at Dataran Putrajaya that drew tens of thousands of spectators on Saturday, combining entertainment, cultural heritage and displays of national defence capabilities.

Among the highlights were appearances by Upin & Ipin, the internationally recognised animated characters that have become cultural icons in Malaysia, alongside performances showcasing the country's performing arts traditions. The event also featured demonstrations by police working dogs and aerial displays involving fighter jets, underscoring Malaysia's security and defence readiness.

The parade, held annually on August 31, represents a significant national occasion for Malaysians to celebrate independence and national unity. This year's event reflected the government's effort to blend popular entertainment with patriotic messaging, drawing families and citizens from across the country to the administrative capital.

The festivities included marching contingents, cultural performances and exhibitions highlighting various aspects of Malaysian society and achievement.
