A Bengal administration official has leveled charges against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming they are working in tandem to obstruct the central government's efforts to deport infiltrators from the country.
According to the official, identified as Mr. Adhikari, the Election Commission and central authorities have prioritized removing unauthorized foreign nationals from Indian territory. However, he contends that Banerjee and Gandhi are mounting coordinated resistance to these deportation initiatives.
The allegation adds to existing tensions between the West Bengal government and New Delhi over immigration and border security matters. The state, which shares a lengthy border with Bangladesh, has long been a focal point in debates over infiltration and demographic changes.
Neither Banerjee's Trinamool Congress nor Gandhi's Congress party has immediately responded to the accusations. The comments reflect deepening political divisions over how India should address the issue of unauthorized foreign nationals residing within its borders.
