Bengaluru Airport Affirms Kannada-Speaking Staff Form Majority of Workforce

Bengaluru Airport has stated that employees from Karnataka form the majority of its workforce, responding to demands from local job advocates. The assertion was made following a meeting between pro-Kannada organisation Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) and 14 companies operating at the airport on Friday, where representatives pressed for more job opportunities for Kannadigas.

The issue of local employment has remained contentious in Bengaluru, with regional organisations consistently seeking greater representation of Kannada-speaking workers across major employers. The airport, as one of India's busiest aviation hubs, serves as a focal point for such discussions given its significant workforce size and operational scope.

KRV's engagement with airport companies represents part of a broader campaign by pro-Kannada groups to ensure preferential hiring of local residents. The organisation's Friday meeting signals renewed momentum in advocating for workplace policies that prioritise Kannadigas, particularly in prominent sectors across the city.

Bengaluru Airport's response underscores the facility's commitment to local employment, though the exchange highlights persistent tensions surrounding job allocation in Karnataka's capital. Such concerns remain relevant as major employers in the city continue navigating demands for regional workforce representation.
