Bengaluru airport road to face 18-month traffic restrictions

Work on the new elevated corridor along Ballari Road, a key arterial connecting central Bengaluru to Kempegowda International Airport, commenced with the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) implementing traffic restrictions effective immediately. The project is designed to decongest one of the city's most congested routes by creating a dedicated four-lane elevated structure parallel to the existing road.

Commuters using Ballari Road can expect lane closures, speed restrictions, and extended travel times throughout the construction period. The BDA has recommended that airport-bound travelers consider using alternative routes such as Old Madras Road and the outer ring road to minimize delays during peak hours.

The elevated corridor project is part of Bengaluru's broader infrastructure modernization drive to tackle increasing vehicular congestion ahead of the monsoon season and to facilitate smoother traffic flow to the airport. Once completed, the new corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on the existing road network.

Commuters are urged to stay updated on construction progress through official BDA channels and local traffic advisories. The authority has emphasized that cooperation from the public during the construction period will be critical to minimizing broader traffic impacts across the city.
