Bengaluru bans two-wheelers from five major elevated corridors

The Bengaluru traffic police have imposed a comprehensive two-wheeler ban on five key elevated structures in the city, marking a significant shift in traffic management strategy. The restrictions will apply to the BGS Flyover, Peenya Elevated Corridor, Double-Decker Flyover, Kempe Gowda International Airport Road Elevated Corridor, and KIA elevated corridor.

The move, set to take effect from September 4, aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion on these critical arterial routes. Officials said the restrictions target two-wheelers, including motorcycles and scooters, which have been identified as contributing to safety concerns and traffic bottlenecks on elevated structures.

The decision comes as Bengaluru grapples with increasing vehicular traffic on its limited road infrastructure. Elevated corridors and flyovers, designed to ease congestion on arterial roads, have become critical transport channels for commuters moving across the city's expanding metropolitan area.

Authorities have issued advance notice to motorists to plan alternative routes. The restrictions are expected to primarily affect daily two-wheeler commuters who currently use these corridors.
