Law enforcement in Bengaluru arrested an IT professional on charges of threatening multiple Bollywood actors and demanding ransom, officials said Wednesday. The accused has been remanded in police custody until November 10 for further investigation.
According to police statements, the suspect allegedly contacted several celebrities via Instagram, falsely representing himself as being associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal gang. Authorities said the accused used the claimed connection to intimidate the actors while soliciting money.
The case represents the latest in a series of extortion attempts targeting entertainment industry figures in India. Police have intensified efforts to track down individuals misusing social media platforms to perpetrate financial crimes against high-profile personalities.
Investigators are examining the suspect's digital devices and communications to establish the full extent of the alleged criminal activity. Authorities are also investigating whether other individuals were involved in the extortion scheme.
