Bescom has asked owners of locked and vacant properties to submit required documents by October 31 as part of its Gruha Jyothi survey. The move aims to streamline the electricity subsidy scheme's beneficiary verification process.

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has issued a notice directing owners of locked and vacant houses to furnish necessary documentation by October 31 to maintain their eligibility under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, the state's flagship domestic electricity subsidy programme.
The directive forms part of Bescom's ongoing survey to verify beneficiaries of the scheme, which provides subsidised power to eligible households across Karnataka. The utility has emphasized that properties found locked or unoccupied during verification visits risk being temporarily disconnected or removed from the subsidy scheme pending documentation.
Property owners are required to produce identity proofs, utility bills, and other supporting documents establishing their residential status and current occupancy. Bescom has set up dedicated channels for document submission to accommodate residents unable to visit offices in person.
The deadline aligns with Bescom's broader initiative to ensure accurate database maintenance and prevent misuse of subsidy benefits. Officials have clarified that the process is not punitive but aims to streamline the beneficiary roster and ensure resources reach genuine claimants.
Property owners facing difficulties in submission are advised to contact their respective Bescom branch offices for guidance and assistance before the deadline expires.
