Bengaluru school halts offline classes after H1N1 cases, mass illness

The private educational institution made the decision to suspend in-person classes as a precautionary measure after the outbreak of illness swept through its student and staff populations. The school has confirmed two cases of H1N1, commonly known as swine flu, with over 500 students reporting symptoms consistent with influenza, including fever, cough, and respiratory distress. Additionally, 21 staff members have reported similar symptoms.

The shift to online learning is expected to remain in effect until the health situation stabilizes and authorities determine it is safe to resume regular campus operations. School authorities are coordinating with health departments to monitor the situation and implement necessary containment measures.

H1N1, which caused a global pandemic in 2009, continues to circulate seasonally in India, particularly during monsoon and winter months when respiratory infections see a spike. The move by Clarence High School reflects growing concerns among educational institutions about controlling the spread of communicable diseases in congregated settings.

Parents and guardians of affected students have been advised to seek medical attention if symptoms develop. Health officials are expected to provide further guidance on when schools can safely resume full offline operations.
