Union officials at Philex Mining Corp.'s Padcal mine in Tuba, Benguet staged a protest Monday against what they characterized as management pressure on striking workers to return to their posts.

BAGUIO CITY — Officers and stewards from the National Mines and Allied Workers Union (NAMAWU) Local 101 marched inside the Padcal mine facility to demonstrate against management tactics they say are aimed at forcing an end to the workers' strike.
The union's action marked an escalation in the labor dispute at the major mining operation, which has been a significant employer in the Benguet province. The protesters contended that company management has been applying undue pressure on striking workers to abandon their job action and return to work.
Union representatives said the march was intended to send a clear message that workers remain united in their position and will not be swayed by management pressure tactics. The strike appears to center on workplace grievances, though specific demands were not immediately detailed.
The Padcal mine operation has long been a focal point for labor relations in the Philippines' mining sector, with the facility regularly attracting attention from worker advocacy groups and union organizations seeking to improve conditions for mining employees.
