The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) office in Itogon, Benguet issued a public advisory Friday warning against unauthorized individuals fraudulently using the agency's name to market fire extinguishers to residents and commercial establishments.
According to the BFP-Itogon advisory, the suspected con artists have been traveling throughout the municipality in a gray van, approaching homes and businesses with the false claim of representing the fire protection bureau.
The advisory urges the public to remain vigilant and verify the legitimacy of any persons claiming to be BFP representatives before engaging in transactions. Residents and business owners are advised to contact the local BFP office directly to confirm whether any sales representatives have been officially dispatched to their area.
The fire protection office did not elaborate on specific details regarding the fraudulent scheme or any reported losses. However, authorities cautioned that such scams typically target unsuspecting victims by exploiting the credibility associated with government agencies.
